I am absolutely in LOVE with being a teacher. Why? Cause you have something new everyday to laugh at. Or should I say 'laught'?
It's funny when 'laughed' becomes 'laught'. It's funny when you have to bark and meow to explain to your student what a dog and a cat is. It's funny when they nod their heads enthusiastically when you asked them if they understood only to get the wrongly-done assignments. And it's also funny when they have the quizzical look when you asked them 'Did you do this yourself or did you copy it from the internet?' and to look at their friends for some help, and only after a very nice friend would translate 'Kau buat sendiri ke kau amik daripada internet?' would they answer 'Eh tak lah Miss. Buat sendiri.'
But it's satisfying when they would do their very best to present in English and to memorize the notes just so they get the language correct. And when they would come and see you 3 times a week to show you their work - just to make sure they did it correctly. And when they could answer the final exam without saying 'I don't remember this lesson. Are you sure you taught us this?' And it's even more satisfying when a student would come up to you saying 'Thank you for being very patient with me. I know my English is not good. But you helped me.'
That is the pivotal moment of your life when you know for sure - I AM a teacher.
